What is a notary public?

A notary public is a public officer, one whose authority to perform certain functions of notarial acts is derived from a commission form the Governor or the State of Florida. A notary’s chief responsibility is to act as an impartial witness in the execution of documents and to certify the facts of such transactions in a notarial certificate. By properly executing his/her duties, a notary helps to deter fraud and promote the integrity and reliability of document transactions. In Florida, a notary public can:

  • Notarize Documents/Take Acknowledgements
  • Administer Oaths
  • Attest Photocopies
  • Solemnize Marriages
  • Verify Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN)
  • Certify Contents of Safety Deposit Boxes
  • Perform Other Duties Specified by Law
